    Untitled, 2009. Two framed photographs.

I work with photography recording everyday life. My photographs document and examine the various degrees of staged artificiality of our shared environments and experience, for instance, a row of red cars, the urban backdrop of hoardings and other facades. I explore this theme further by photographing strangers after obtaining their permission, hereby creating a situation which exists purely for the sake of the photograph. I present my photographs in many different forms - as part of sculptures, framed and hung on walls, in films, and in slide show presentations. Common to these presentations is the notion of montage, where images are being assembled and held up against one another to establish new relationships and meanings. I pair seemingly disparate images together, which allows different relationships to be formed whilst also revealing a visual language in the common environments we inhabit. My use of photography extends to an investigation of the photographic media itself. The subject, the object, the frame, the onlooker are all crucial in my ongoing project.
