We are pleased to present a screening of a new video work by Sulaiman Majali an artist and writer who currently lives and works between London and Glasgow. This work was produced on residency at Kunsthalle Exnergasse, Vienna, in collaboration with Transmission.

Sulaiman Majali’s new video work is an interrogation of relationships between space, the image and the sculptural object. Departing from a transcript of a conversation that forms part of a wider project of mapping, defining and proposing Arabfuturism(s), the video work questions the location of the diasporic mind. After the proliferation of the image and a quantum scattering of bodies, how do we generate new narratives amongst the ruins of disintegration and collapse? Isn’t the citizen of nowhere, a citizen of everywhere? In the heterotopia of a phone conversation, the image, the word and the object occupy space at the peripheries of virtuality and actuality. That meeting place. That (inaudible) coffee you're drinking? remember a thousand images and a poem? all of this is poetry though. in some way, yeah[-]i guess, erm, i guess it could be [pause] what do we mean by saying that? you said it was poetry [pause] it’s irrelevant, it could be a script. let's focus on the manifesto though. but then is this the beginning?

Sulaïman Majali is an artist and writer, b.1991; London, exhibiting nationally and internationally including Dubai, Rotterdam, Vienna and London. Twice shortlisted for the International Emerging Artist Award in Dubai, Majali has been referenced in Tohu Magazine as an emerging thinker and writer in the development and investigation of the term Arabfuturism. Majali's wider practice uses languages of film, newmedia, sculpture, the image and text to construct and reconstruct conceptual landscapes of thought and critique. Through interrogating our relationships with the political in a postglobalised, postorientalist, postdigital age of anxiety, -with an emphasis on the poetic and the strange- the work both investigates and occupies a diasporicspace of subdued unease.
