McGowan's practice relies heavily on a thinking through doing process, utilsing commonly discarded and dispensible materials she continuously recylces and reuses her work. Through this obsessional behaviour , she has been able to develop unassuming and natural connections between the artworks. The work is sculptural although dues to the realationship between the individual elements in the space, the work can take on the form of an installation. It is in this liminal space that she hopes to evoke a an alternative sense of dialogue,
McGowan was born 1992 in County Antrim, Northern Ireland. She obtained a BA (Hons) in Fine Art with a First at the Institute technology, Sligo, Ireland. Selected for her first solo show, 'Fading Memories', at The Hyde Bridge Gallery, Sligo in February 2017 and was shortlisted for The RDS Visual Art Awards 2017 as a result of her degree show. McGowan is currently undertaking a MA in Contemporary Art Practice at Edinburgh College of Art, The University of Edinburgh, where she is due to finish September 2018.
