My practice articulates a post-apocalyptic worldview, that combines humanities fading presence with elements from nature to question how long man will live in respect to deep time and to comment on the culpability of our actions against the environment for humans now and humans to come. Recent work uses the traditional medium of egg tempera to create paintings, which integrate illusionary drawing and painting techniques with abstract minimalist surfaces. When viewed collectively the works form a complex web of signification, where bursts of detail, colour and abstract forms add to the overall atmosphere and meaning.
I studied painting at Norwich University of the Arts (BA HONS) and Glasgow School of Art (MLITT). My most recent body of work The Shape of Things To Come (http://www.jessicacopping.com/gsa-degree-show-2016) was exhibited in the Glasgow School of Art Masters Degree Show 2016. I have exhibited in the UK and internationally in China, Finland and America. I am currently living and working in Glasgow.
